The Shaw offers young people the opportunity to experience the “magic” of theatre in a way that is affordable, accessible and exciting. For youth who want to learn more about the world of live theatre, we provide special opportunities to go behind-the-scenes to meet and learn from working theatre professionals.

Options for Youth

Spend a day at the Shaw Festival and learn more about the world of live theatre. Schedule: 10am to 5pm, includes a 2 hour workshop, pre- and post-show chats, and 2pm matinee performance. All workshops led by Shaw Festival professionals.

MUSICAL THEATRE – ACTING THROUGH SONG

Date: April 14 includes 2pm Ragtime

For young performers who want to explore the actor’s process through song. Learn how to use your voice and body to express action, text, and subtext.

FUNNY BUSINESS

Date: May 12 includes 2pm Present Laughter

Comedy is considered by many to be the most difficult genre to act. Play around with different comedic forms – farce, clown, improvisation – and learn what it takes to be funny!

THE PITFALLS OF PRATFALLS

Date: June 16 includes 2pm His Girl Friday

Pratfall: a fall in which one lands on the buttocks, often regarded as comical or humiliating. Learn the art of physical acting – without the bruises.
