ME AND MY GIRL: The original book and lyrics were by DOUGLAS FURBER (1885-1961) and L. ARTHUR ROSE (1882-1958). Both were actors who turned their hands to writing lyrics and revue sketches. Furber, born Michael Sultan Lewin, also had a successful career in the US, appearing in Broadway revues and later writing films for MGM. Among his thousand songs, his most famous was perhaps “The Bells of St Mary’s”. Besides Me and My Girl, Arthur Rose could count 88 West End productions to his credit, including the horse-racing musical Twenty to One (1935, music by Billy Mayerl) which also starred Lupino Lane as Bill Snibson.
