“Where the spotlight is, there the despots will gather.”

Take Geneva, one of Shaw’s fascinating but thornier late plays, lend it a freewheeling, extravagant adaptation by one of Canada’s most well-respected playwrights, and presto! The result is a sharp, contemporary, political comedy where affairs of state meet the Three Stooges. The play opens in a dysfunctional diplomatic office prior to the Second World War and ends in The Hague at a trial of the world’s dictators. Between, you are taken on a totally manic ride. As I choose the Shaw plays for each season, I am still amazed at how prescient he was about the terrifying outcomes of seemingly innocuous political actions. This anarchic tale of international diplomacy run amok becomes more relevant daily … especially as shaken and stirred by John Murrell. – JM Peace in Our Time: A Comedy is recommended for ages 16+ Running time is approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes with one intermission |
