Anthony Malarky

Mr Anthony Malarky returns for his fourth season at the Shaw Festival appearing as J.P. Morgan in Ragtime and Trouble in Tahiti. Last season, Anthony appeared as George in the Lerner and Loewe musical My Fair Lady and as Rolleston in J.M. Barrie’s The Admirable Crichton. Previous Shaw credits include the role of Zuvetli in One Touch of Venus and The Cherry Orchard. He made his Shaw Festival debut in the James Lepine/Stephen Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George as Louis the Baker, and the Noël Coward trio Play, Orchestra, Play.
Additional theatre adventures include hearing the people sing in Les Misérables (Thousand Islands Playhouse); climbing out of a smoky bookcase as Thuy in Miss Saigon (Drayton Entertainment); eating sausages as Dromio of Syracuse in The Comedy of Errors (Canadian Stage Company); eating ice cream in Anne of Green Gables (The Grand Theatre); baking cakes as the Cooking Stove in Just So (Globe Theatre); shooting craps in Guys & Dolls (Manitoba Theatre Centre, Theatre Calgary, Citadel Theatre); Grease-ing up as Sonny La Tieri (Elgin Theatre); clowning around in Pinocchio (Theatre New Brunswick); searching for Gum San in Iron Road (Tapestry New Opera); cutting his teeth on Waiting for Lefty and Audience Unveiling Protest (The Co); and spending three seasons at the Stratford Festival where he spoke Thai in The King & I, drank beer in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, tattooed his head in The Adventures of Pericles; became a vertically-challenged French emperor in The Count of Monte Cristo, weathered The Tempest, got punched in the nose by The Lark and wore antlers in As You Like It. Anthony also had the wonderfully terrifying honour of performing for Stephen Sondheim at the Harbourfront World Leader’s Festival.
Anthony received his training at Stratford’s Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training and at Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance Program. He is also proud to have been a part of the inaugural Shaw Festival Mandate Intensive.
This season, Anthony also takes on the role of a lifetime … Dad.
