Todd Charlton

This season, Mr. Todd Charlton is the composer/sound designer for Hedda Gabler.
Todd has been designing sound for over 20 years. A sound designer for 15 seasons at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, his credits include Cymbeline, Twelfth Night, The Grapes of Wrath, Palmer Park, Hamlet, Of Mice and Men, the Swanne trilogy, Ghosts and many more. Todd has also designed for the Blyth Festival for seven seasons, where many new and exciting Canadian plays were given their world premieres.
For the past seven years, he has designed for Theatre Sheridan’s acclaimed Musical Theatre Program. His credits include Rent, Oklahoma!, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, The Drowsy Chaperone, Grease, Gypsy. Recently, Rent was presented by Mirvish Productions at the Panasonic Theatre.
Other sound design credits include Intimate Apparel (Obsidian/Canadian Stage/Citadel), Rock ’n’ Roll (Canadian Stage) and several years at the Tarragon Theatre designing for a variety of productions including Courageous, Democracy, Scorched and Wild Mouth. His work has also been heard at several other companies across Canada. As Head of Audio at Young People’s Theatre for 11 years, Todd has designed for a great many of their productions, as well as taking a leading role in helping to implement computerized audio playback to theatres in Toronto.
A member of the Associated Designers of Canada, Todd has received four Dora nominations for his work and is currently the sound instructor for Humber College’s Theatre Production program. He lives happily in Stratford with his wife, Melissa, his three boys, Harper, Jack and Devlin; and his big dog Ripley.
