The Mahabharata is a story that one learns over a lifetime; it needs to be absorbed and digested. To delve deeper into the philosophical riddles of the Pandava family’s 13 years of exile, the audience gathers to share a traditional South Asian meal (see below Khaana: Community Meal). Experience the stories as many people have, from elders around the dinner table. The stories of life told where life happens.

On the following dates Mahabharata: Karma (Part 1) and Mahabharata: Dharma (Part 2) will be presented over the course of one day allowing you to enjoy this epic theatrical event in its entirety with Khaana in between, on the grounds of the Shaw Festival. Seating is limited. Alternatively, we have other dining options to choose from (see below).

Khaana: Community meal

Enjoy an authentic South Asian vegetarian meal provided by Jalsa Kitchen as part of the Khaana experience.

$35 + tax per person. Seating is limited.
  • Daal makhani - whole black lentil, red kidney beans, butter and cream
  • Aloo gobhi - a vegetarian dish from the Indian subcontinent made with potatoes, cauliflower and Indian spices
  • Paneer dish - a fresh cheese common in the Indian subcontinent
  • Roti - a round, flat, unleavened Indian bread
  • Rice
  • Lassi (drink) - a traditional Indian yogurt drink

Treadwell: On site tented restaurant

$100 + tax per person, includes wine and gratuities. Seating is limited. Enjoy a farm-to-table meal courtesy of Treadwell on the Festival grounds.
  • Arugula and goat cheese salad with roasted peaches
  • Poached Coho salmon with cucumber and dill salad*
  • Cardamom rice pudding with blackberry jam
  • Wine included
*Vegetarian option replaces the salmon with a cucumber and dill salad with toasted grains and pickled red onion.
