We are pleased to introduce you to Julie Lumsden, one of the 2020 Season’s RBC Emerging Artists, a program dedicated to the artistic development of young ensemble members.
This is Julie’s second season at The Shaw. Here’s your chance to get to know her better.
Q What has been your biggest lesson at the Shaw Festival so far?
A The biggest lesson that the Shaw Festival has taught me is the power of community. When we work together for a common goal, when we work together to make sure every single one of us is lifted up, we can accomplish goals we would never have thought possible on our own.
Q If you were not a professional artist what would you be doing?
A If I wasn’t an artist I would want to be a kindergarten teacher, and be taught everyday by the kindness, generosity and humour of our little ones.
Q What does being an artist mean to you?
A To me, being an artist is the result of work that started generations before me. I am very privileged to get to live my dreams, and that means I must continue to grow, learn and train as much as I possibly can to honour my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents, great-great-great-grandparents.
RBC Emerging Artists are supported by the RBC Foundation.
