At the Shaw Festival we celebrate the human connection and the collective experience of live theatre. The great “pause” of the past year has given everyone at The Shaw time to reflect on what is most important in our lives. And at this remarkable time in world history, we believe even more in the power of art to nourish and sustain us; that we need the vital energy of live theatre and the shared experiences that help us feel alive and grounded in our humanity.

​In recognition of this necessary human connection, the Shaw Festival has committed to a goal of raising $500,000 to make possible new, innovative programs designed to bring together audiences, artists, and students in fresh and exciting ways. On with The Shaw! is a special appeal to support four key areas of new investment vital to the future of The Shaw that cannot be sustained by ticket sales and Membership gifts alone:

  1. Onsite connections: creating new outdoor stages and enlivening our beautiful grounds;
  2. Online connections: building our capacity for digital engagement;
  3. Artist connections: investing in our artists and artisans; and
  4. Connecting safely: increasing investments in our health and safety protocols

1. Onsite Connections

The Shaw has an ambitious vision to expand its current outdoor space so audiences can enjoy a more immersive and accessible arts experience. Outdoors @ The Shaw is a bold new concept launched in 2021 that removes the walls and brings art into the outdoors on the grounds of the Festival and Royal George Theatres. Five new performance spaces hosting 12 original outdoor pieces, three mainstage productions, and 200+ performances of open-air plays, concerts, events, and unique theatrical experiences. Part carnival, part theatre celebration, this fresh-air summer fête is a novel way for audiences to engage with the Shaw Festival. Significant outdoor infrastructure developments and ongoing programming support make these experiences possible. Your gift will provide the necessary funds to nurture and further develop Outdoors @ The Shaw, establishing a future where people can gather and enjoy the magic of performance in all manner of inspiring landscapes.
