What is it that continues to draw us to the theatre? We return to this space with strangers, time and time again, to witness great plays and the human condition. Perhaps gathering in a theatre has a magical effect of both sharing the ‘burden’ and multiplying the joy. Recall a moment in theatre where you observed a devastating scene in which a hard truth is revealed. How did it feel to respond to this moment in concert with other people? Imagine that you were the only person to experience this moment. Your encounter would surely be different. How about a time when you laughed out loud at a situation on stage alongside hundreds of other people? Still a sensation that would have differed if you were alone.

The Joy of Shared Experience

We take care of one another when we collectively witness a corner of the world at the same time. In a time of headphones, handheld devices and isolation, shared experiences might address a part of the human condition that seems to be neglected. And this can be tended to in the theatre.
