On the 100th anniversary of the birth of James Baldwin, The Shaw re-enacts the historic 1965 debate between playwright James Baldwin and pro-segregationist commentator William F. Buckley on race and the American Dream. A no-holds-barred verbal boxing match of radical thinkers of mid-20th century America. The subject being “The American Dream is at the cost of the American Negro”.

The Secret Garden by British-American novelist Frances Hodgson Burnett is a treasured classic of children’s literature. Published in 1911, this uplifting tale of the restorative power of nature has resonated for more than a century with all ages of readers and viewers of the numerous performing-arts adaptations.
The course will coincide with the Shaw Festival’s production of The Secret Garden and will be enriched by special opportunities for interactive conversation with artists of the Festival’s cast and creative team.

This progressive four-week session is a playful intro to the basics of different dance forms with one of the Shaw Festival Ensemble Members. You will learn some technique and even a bit of choreography! Fun for all ages (8+) and experience levels. Offered in two sessions.
