Personal Statement: As a blind theatre goer, I have learned a new and profoundly engaging way of enjoying and understanding theatre. Shaw plays have opened out to me in a qualitatively different dimension of sound and imagined light and action, with the extraordinary interplay between audience and player hanging in the air with each breath taken and word spoken. Breathtaking, indeed. I am thrilled to begin a term on the Shaw Board for the power that a theatre can exert in the world of ideas, peacemaking in the true sense and civil discourse. Theatre can be daring where the rest of us cannot be and is a force for strengthening community and human relations at all levels. I’m passionate about the Shaw.
