The Shaw Festival is pleased to honour and celebrate our bi-national founders – Brian Doherty of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Calvin Rand of Buffalo – with the renaming of our Legacy Program to The Doherty-Rand Legacy Circle. This Circle recognizes generous individuals who provide support for The Shaw through bequests, insurance gifts, trusts and other legacy gifts. Some donors prefer anonymity, and we will respect your wishes if you prefer your gift to remain confidential.
Upon your death, your estate is entitled to a donation receipt for the full value of your bequest, providing a significant tax credit.
US Donors: Bequests and other gifts from US residents are made through the Shaw Festival Foundation, which is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a section 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your estate will receive a tax letter conforming to IRS requirements.
There are many practical advantages to making a legacy gift. But, to The Shaw, the best part about making a planned lifetime or future gift is our ability to honour your generosity now!

“It was a family affair! My journey with the Shaw Festival started many years ago with my parents and later when I sat by the pool among friends and Calvin Rand and Brian Doherty, the co-founders of this wonderful theatre company. It’s always been about community, celebrations of new theatre spaces, and opening nights that ended with fireworks. As the town grew, so did The Shaw. It has been one of the joys of my life to surround myself with friends and family and theatre that makes you smile, laugh and think.
It is my honour to support The Shaw now and through a legacy gift in the future. The Shaw and great theatre – a family affair to be cherished – thank you Shaw Festival!” – Harriet ‘Sis’ Bunting Weld, Governors Council and Doherty-Rand Legacy Circle Member.
